A cargo ship struck a bridge that crosses outer Baltimore Harbor early Tuesday, triggering a collapse, the authorities said.
The Coast Guard received a report of an impact at 1:27 a.m. Eastern time at the Francis Scott Key Bridge, said Matthew West, a petty officer first class for the Coast Guard in Baltimore.'>>>

The water in Baltimore Harbor is currently about 48 degrees Fahrenheit, or 9 degrees Celsius, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Hypothermia can occur in any water temperature below 70 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Its still not clear how many people were on the bridge when the cargo ship made impact, or what happened to them. Johnny Olszewski Jr., the Baltimore County executive, said on social media that an emergency response was ongoing. He did not elaborate and could not be reached for comment.
