...his mind shuts off anything that doesn't benefit him, and this entire event is an attack on his deliberate delusions which fuel his lies.

Trump is mentally held together by a stubborn contradiction of almost everything that doesn't serve his delusions, and his body is shutting down like a form of defensive narcolepsy rather than face the reality around him.
