19. The "mental health" part of the interview is not what the OP's expert suggests

Again, based on conversations with the white collar defense team at my law firm's New York office: Trump doesn't have to show up for a pre-sentence interview, although most counsel would advise their clients to do so. If he does show up, Trump would be asked for some basic information: name, aliases, address, profession, marital status, etc. He also will be asked about his heath history, whether he has a record of treatment for substance abuse or mental health issues. He'll probably be asked if he owns a firearm.

That's about it. After addressing those basic questions, he can, if he chooses, offer his views on his conviction and why he should be shown leniency in sentencing.

Trump will have his attorney with him during his pre-sentencing interview, if he chooses to participate.
