WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: Democrats Blitz the Airwaves: "Joe Biden is the Leader of Our Party" [View all]

Over the weekend, Democratic leaders, delegates, commentators, and more rallied around President Joe Biden in a show of strength and unity following his powerful remarks to a fired up crowd of over 1,000 supporters Friday in Madison, Wisconsin.

Today, President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden returned to the battleground state of Pennsylvania to speak at Mt. Airy Church of God in Christ church in Philadelphia before traveling to Harrisburg for a community organizing event with hundreds of union members and local Democrats.

See what they are saying below:

On MSNBC’s The Weekend, National Advisory Board Member Senator Alex Padilla: “The bottom line is: Joe Biden is the leader of our party, and we’re committed to ensuring that he has a second term and equally important that Donald Trump does not win in November. The stakes are simply too high… This is the president who convened Democratic governors last week and there will continue to be outreach to not just to leadership in congress but to members of congress, in both the House and the Senate, to remind everyone of everything that needs to happen and everybody needs to do their parts… The big picture remains: Democrats have the majority at Congress and will defeat Donald Trump this November and every Democratic leader needs to ask themselves what they want to do between now and November to ensure that that’s the case because the stakes are simply too high.”

On CNN’s State of the Union, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell: “I'll tell you, I had people in parades shout at me, ‘Tell [President Biden] to stay. We have his back.’ Union halls…”

“We need to get back to talking about Donald Trump and his performance and all the issues that are at stake and the contrast… We need to be talking about Donald Trump and all the things that he's done and how he wants to be a dictator and how he wants to make- thinks things like Roe vs Wade is the greatest thing that he ever did, how he wants to give his billionaire friends a tax cut and thinks January 6th was a great thing.”

On MSNBC’s The Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart, Congresswoman Nikema Williams: “What I heard in the interview is a president who has a record to run on. President Biden went before the American people in a sit-down interview and he defended his record, and he talked about the transformational policies that have been enacted over the past three and a half years. I am here at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, with thousands of black women from across the country, and – you know what I am hearing Katie – they appreciate the $16 billion dollars that have been invested in HBCUs, they appreciate that black businesses have grown exponentially over the past three and half years, and then we have an alternative. We have someone else on the ballot twice impeached, 34 felony convictions, who has bragged about overturning Roe v. Wade, so Katie, it is clear to me before the debate, during the debate, and after the interview, our choice and work is clear here. We must defeat Donald Trump in November. I am keeping my eyes on the prize. That's the goal, and that is what we are going to do.”

On MSNBC’s PoliticsNation, Congressman Al Green: “I am supporting [President Biden] and I do believe he is the best person for the job… This election is going to be about the candidates but about what they stand for. President Biden stands for democracy. He stands for liberty and justice for all. He stands for government of the people by the people and for the people. He stands for honesty and truth. On the other hand, the other candidate, he stands for autocracy… He stands for the notion that you can have persons assault the Capitol, yes, but really assault democracy.”

On Fox News’ Fox and Friends Sunday, Former Congressman Patrick Murphy: “This is [President Biden’s] eighth trip to Pennsylvania just this year. He was in Wisconsin on Friday. The guy is hustling. The guy who was overseas, in a combat zone, is the President of the United States, in Ukraine. He was in Israel with our allies. And I'll say it today, when he's at a Black church this morning going to mass, right, he's going to talk about – it was 16% unemployment in Black America just years ago under President Trump, and now it's less than 5%. That's a historic low. We're going to talk about a stock market that's at a record high… That's the record that he's brought.”

On CNN’s State of the Union, National Advisory Board Member Senator Chris Murphy: “I've worked with Joe Biden. I've been on the phone with him. I've been in the room with him. This is one of the most effective presidents that I've ever served under. I've watched him repair this nation's reputation all around the world. I worked with him on the 2022 gun bill that would not have happened without his detailed support and intervention that's saved lives all around the country. I also watched the debate, and I think it's pretty amazing that 90% of the conversation is around Joe Biden's style when, up on that stage, Donald Trump was engaged in a level of pathological lying that we've never seen before in a debate. He endorsed political violence over, and over, and over again. It's a statement on our politics that we're not talking more about Donald Trump.”

On CBS’ Face the Nation, Senator Bernie Sanders: “What we are talking about now is not a Grammy-award contest for best singer. Biden is old… but what we have got to focus on is policy –whose policies have, and will, benefit the vast majority of the people in this country. Who has the guts to take on corporate America? Who is talking about expanding medicare so we cover dental, hearing, and vision? Who's talking about raising the cap on the taxes that people pay into Social Security, so we can raise Social Security benefits and extend the life of social security for 75 years? Who's talking about a permanent child tax credit to cut childhood poverty in America by 50%. Those are the issues [President Biden has] talked about… This is not a beauty contest or a Grammy award contest. Who stands with the vast majority of this country, the elderly, children, working class, the poor? That candidate is, obviously, Joe Biden.”

On CNN’s State of the Union, Doug Thornell: “I think it's really important… that we go back to the core issue in this race, and that is the contrast between the two men and their character. If we are focused on talking about a twice-impeached convicted felon who is only out for himself, versus a decent, honest man who has put the middle-class first, I think this race can stabilize. … You're looking at … a Bloomberg poll this morning of battleground states that show the race essentially tied. I know there are other polls that say other things, but in some key states, the president is either a head or it's within the margin of error. He does have a big week ahead of him with the NATO conference coming up. He's doing some events today in Harrisburg and Philly – that's important.”

On NewsNation’s The Hill Sunday, Congressman John Garamendi: “The Congress and the Senate are returning to the Capitol, and the result will be an opportunity for them to take a look at the history of this president over the previous three and a half years. The wisdom that he brings to the office that's not available to anybody else, because they've not had 50 plus years of experience. The work that he's done holding NATO together, and NATO will be in Washington in the coming days. And so we're going to take a look at that – my perspective on this is that the president is doing exactly what he needs to do and that is to govern. To be president … being president, actually in the office, is not about the debating. It's about the wisdom of the experience, understanding international relationships, and international leaders around the world. All of that this president has and I am quite confident he'll be able to do it for the next 4 years.”

On MSNBC’s Alex Witt Reports, Congressman Robert Garcia: “The president did exactly what he had to do [Friday] night… The president made it very clear that he is the one person that has defeated Donald Trump. When we were – you remember just a few years ago – recovering from the COVID pandemic, where a million Americans had died, the economy was in terrific shape, and Donald Trump was destroying our institutions. Joe Biden stepped up in a tough primary, one where he was counted out by the press, by many voters, by elected leaders across the country. He won that primary and he defeated Donald Trump, and so I have been proud to support the Biden-Harris administration, the current ticket, and I think the president will continue to do what he did last night, which is talk directly to the American people, go out and do press conferences and interviews and rally like he did in Wisconsin and in North Carolina, which are energetic and continue to fire up the grassroots base of voters that will make the decision in November. Democrats need to unite and focus on one thing, and that is defeating Donald Trump in November.”

On MSNBC’s Politics Nation, Governor Josh Green: “Now, the President is old, all right – and the former President, Mr. Trump, is old. But the difference is, their underlying personalities are completely and absolutely different. This president cares deeply about the country and people. He cares about Republicans, he cares about Independents, he cares about Democrats. The former president, Mr. Trump, cares about no one because he’s got a narcissistic personality disorder. He is absolutely archetypal in that way, and that has put great peril in the lives of women. You know, Reverend, 57% of African-American women right now have no access to abortion. 57%, because of what former President Donald Trump did. So, when you contrast the two people just about caring, there is no question.”

Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania Austin Davis: Pennsylvania is ready for @JoeBiden!

Representative Malcolm Kenyatta: Great to spend some time with President @JoeBiden back in Philadelphia.

I told him this, “we have your back, because you’ve had ours.”

Democratic LGs: Lt. Gov @AustinDavisPA campaigning with President @JoeBiden in Harrisburg: “This election is about making sure we have a President who cares about each and every one of us, believes in the promise of America, and will always stand up for our fundamental rights and freedoms”

Representative Malcolm Kenyatta: Joe Biden isn’t a young man, but he’s a damn good President and results matter.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer: Facts are facts: @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris have delivered for the American people.

Congressman Jim Clyburn: 15 million new jobs. 21 million Americans are now insured under the ACÁ. The cost of insulin is capped at $35/month for seniors on Medicare.

That’s just a fraction of what @JoeBiden has been able to deliver. There is no one better suited to continue this country’s progress than him.

Florida State Senator Shevrin “Shev” Jones: You don’t abandon the person who has been there for us. @FlaDems stands with you, President @JoeBiden 💪🏾❤️

On CNN’s This Morning, Former Ambassador & Senator Carol Moseley Braun: “[President Biden] has delivered for every constituency I know of or care about, and and he's delivered, he's he's been really good in office, and how all that gets buried under this conversation …The fact matter is he's the best shot we have to keep this country on an even keel, keep us moving forward, keep our democracy intact, keep our leadership in the world intact.”

On WISN 12 News’ Upfront, Biden-Harris Wisconsin Delegates:

Wisconsin Democratic Delegate Deiadra Query: “You have to announce who you support when you decide to be a delegate. I said Joe Biden. It was Joe Biden that day, and it's Joe Biden today, and it will be Joe Biden in August.”

Wisconsin Democratic Delegate and Election Commissions Chair, Ann Jacobs: “Joe was as charming as ever. Charming, friendly and just delightful… He’s been leading the country for three and a half years and what he has done speaks volumes.”

Wisconsin Democratic Delegate Rep. Christine Sinicki: “There’s a lot of talk but we can’t turn our back on him after everything he’s done the last three and a half years after one bad night. He sounded good today. He sounded good at North Carolina. I think he's back… I’m fully confident he can serve another four years.”
