... the "conventional wisdom" among politicos (i.e., a bit of group think) that Kamala Harris is better than Biden, but is nevertheless problematic -- she isn't the image of the more cautious, acceptable moderate they think Dems need. They had hopes some sort of abbreviated "contest" would yield someone who better fits that mold.

I think Harris will surprise the doubters with her strong message of a people first, people-powered campaign, and bold vision for an america that actually acts in accord with our core values --values shared across the spectrum. On the right, they may distrust government programs to achieve the vision, but I think she can make inroads by reminding us all that our government is ours to shape -- not some evil entity to be reviled and dismantled.

I hope a core message emerges that we can effectively make progress tackling our biggest problems if we engage across divides to find solutions grounded in shared values. It is something she learned seeing Biden bring opponents together to hammer legislation that moves us forward. If we can unite behind the belief that we can do better reaching across divides to build better tomorrow, perhaps we can actually get back on the road to "a more perfect union."
