Having a background of balancing a state budget is a useful gimmick to have in the VP's resume, but it's not really an important skill to have.

You can hire budgeting experts for the real work. "Budgeting experts" means experienced negotiators, by the way -- same skillset as a hostage negotiator. And these experts in turn can hire the accountants.

The real skills you need for a VP is a telegenic, exciting campaign speech giver who shows solid judgment in policy selection and can think quickly on his feet.

Doing the job, as Mr 45 showed, has almost nothing to do with getting the job.
