5. They are missing a sort of standard PARENT JOKE

I love my daughter and people love their kids but there is a cynical shared-experience joke amongst parents. We all know people or couples who don’t have kids. Friends neighbors coworkers. They talk about going here or there and there’s thought that’s maybe spoken or mumbled or it’s just a thought “Well, THEY don’t have kids”

Or there’s someone let’s say at work “Doesn’t she look great?” says one woman …..I can look around the room at Moms and I can almost feel them thinking “Well, wait until SHE starts having kids”

Both are just funny asides to ourselves and a shared joke.

I get that this stuff Vance is saying is standard religious no divorce til death do us part go make more Christian soldiers thing but aren’t those people already in their camp? Maybe reports of low enthusiasm (e. g. SW Virginia) in their ranks are true. Don’t they have any kind of external sounding board to get SOME sort of perspective from outside the echo chamber?
