Donnie and other republicans say crap like this, and the media amplifies their stupid lies.

They invariably show the clip of Donnie or whoever saying something insane, then relegate the fact-checking to an easily ignored or even entirely missed footnote/afterthought.

If the media was responsible, the story would be that Donnie lied or said something insane, and the actual quote would be buried in the story and presented only after it was clear what the truth is and then follow it with reiterating the truth and explaining why what he said was a lie and/or insane.

But they don't do that, they just show the clip and go wow. And discuss. And eventually say oh it not true or there's no evidence or whatever. Deliberately ineffective.

So yeah, crazy people out there believe crazy shit because the media encourages it.
