“Surely they wouldn’t let me die.”

Now we all know that they surely would.

Having been born and raised well before Roe, I can tell you that there was a kind of legal and societal mantra about the illegality of abortion: “Exceptions for rape, incest, and the life and health of the mother.”

A D&C was not “an abortion” in those days — it was standard of care for a miscarriage that did not resolve itself quickly on its own. Now it has been redefined as an abortion. My mother had one. A woman who was bleeding out from a miscarriage was hustled into the OR, not sent out to the parking lot until she flatlined. This happened with my mother when she was having her share of baby boomers, and her life was saved.

A woman I knew in college who had an ectopic pregnancy was taken in for surgery as soon as it was diagnosed — not told to go away until it ruptured and she almost died of internal bleeding. The treatment is not an abortion. There is no “baby” and there is not even a fetus and there never will be. But this happens now.

The idiot politicians who are making these draconian laws mouth words about “God” and “babies” but they don’t care a damn about women and little girls, and they certainly don’t give a damn about real babies, because while they are threatening doctors with prison, maternal mortality and infant mortality rates have gone up.

Poor Shirley is flatlining in the parking lot.
