(10,883 posts)Just sharing the positive experiences I've had at BraverAngels.org events. I was tired of othering "them." I find the events to be very creatively structured in a way that opens moments of shared humanity and empathy across the "divide." It gives me hope. Something I've found in short supply these past years.
There was one woman who stands out in my mind. She was incredibly nervous. As the "Red/Blue Workshop" unfolded, it became clear that she was afraid of the "blues." She believed "blues" would reject and ridicule her for being a Christian. Through some difficult, honest, and respectful exchanges. It became clear to her that the "blues" (at least the ones in the zoom room) not only didn't hate her, some shared her faith. When she started crying, it brought tears to my eyes. I was so sad that she had been so afraid of "people like me."
They also work to find common ground on tough issues. For example, Trustworthy Elections. Read more about the process here:

The set of proposals that came out of the process provide a "common ground" place -- areas that real progress can be made based on values shared by reds and blues.
They are currently engaging in a similar process on border security and immigration reform.
I think is it worthwhile work worthy of my time. Your mileage may vary.
