And think this is a brilliant strategy.

BUT, I disagree vehemently with the author's take that the press no longer has a roll in presidential elections:

"Even if I agreed that candidates who want to be president should be regularly subjected to media scrutiny, I don’t think this press corps, as it is currently organized, is able to."

Brilliant strategy currently, but if she keeps at it too long without confronting what may very well be a hostile press corp, then that is not good for democracy and may end up hurting her campaign when it really matters - close to when the voting happens.
