A reflection on my birthday [View all]

Today is my 73rd birthday. Having come close to death at age 57 from a serious lung issue, the last 16 years have been gravy. I am most fortunate to have pretty good health and a wonderful partner, although I am the only survivor of three brothers. I was born during the Truman administration, and have been a staunch Democrat since Kennedy beat Nixon. I think the two most surprising things are the rise of actual fascism in this country, and the fact that probably more than half the people my age are Magats, especially males. In the late 60s and early 70s I thought my generation was going to change the world for the better. We mostly all seemed to share such high ideals at that time. WTF happened to those people? I can't get my head around how they changed but I got more liberal, if anything. It's delightful to have hope again at this late stage. Thanks Kamala and Tim for the birthday gift.
