(1,635 posts)Nobody really talked about religion in school. We didn't have prayers, or even the Pledge of Allegiance at that point.
I knew Catholics, all flavors of Baptists, Protestants, even a Jew or two. The only time I ever saw a kid have issues about their religion was a Jehovah's Witness girl who was treated like shit by the teacher around the time of a holiday celebration. The girl said she couldn't participate in the singing of songs about Christmas, since it was against her faith.
The teacher said the girl could sit out in the hall while we practiced. Maybe she'd learn better while listening to the songs! I wouldn't sing, after that. I sat at the back, didn't participate. I had my own issues with that teacher.
It was uncalled for, by a love thy neighbor "Christian", but the school would do nothing. The girl ended up being pulled from school. I made a point of sitting with her at lunch, since no one else would. She was nice, but by that point she just "dropped" out, endured.
