Going to be interesting when Trump's DOJ begins prosecuting his political adversaries [View all]
...and the people he's called out in his campaign, and in his reelection.
One of the first things I'd argue if I was a defendant would be that the FBI which presumably investigated is being run by someone with an open political vendetta against Democrats.
Moreover, unlike Biden's DOJ which had little to no relationship with the president, there's a reinforcing refrain from Trump about his predecessor about 'weaponization' which may work on a campaign trail , but is a damning projection of his own interference as he justifies his malfeasance by pointing to his false projections about a 'witch hunt' directed by the Biden WH.
In effect, Trump's DOJ is in a box of his own making, with the appointment of a henchman AG who has openly called for using the power of our nation's Justice Dept. to pursue and punish political opponents.
There is no precedent for that brand of politicization of the Justice Dept., aside from Trump's own politicized DOJ in his last term in office. It's one thing to campaign on a canard of what you claim your opponent is guilty of without proof.
Quite another to try and use that rhetorical prevarication in court as a shield or justification for abusing justice in your own presidency.
