(11,212 posts)I was referring to the post that suggested taking a nihilistic stance toward trump's takeover. You implied that there is nothing that can be done.
I simply disagree. If you have influence, you should influence.
(You are simply hoping that a secret cabal of our leaders are meeting in secret to hatch a grand plan to snatch back democracy at the most dramatic moment. How did that work out for Turkey? I do share your wish for a grand movement, but if we ordinary liberals are being asked to demonstrate and protest, I think those we have often selected and rewarded for service should perhaps be indicating that they believe there is a way out. I'm reminded of my musings about why we quit hearing from Al Gore on saving the environment. I came to believe that he had decided that it was just too late, that we had crossed the environmental Rubicon and there wasn't really a point anymore since it was too late to turn things back. Could our leaders have used their experience and historical knowledge of how government works to decide that, with the oligarchs and Kremlin in charge, there is nothing that we can do? See. I too have a nihilistic streak. Too much Turgenev.)
