(1,262 posts)And I believe that a majority of younger vs older voted for Kamala. And this mess has been a long time in the making, all that you said is true. I just remember the excitement we felt about the gigantic rallies.... and it seemed we mostly had the youth vote. But the Gaza issue drove many young people I know. And of course that was exploited fully by bad actors as well.
I am a musician. I had a band gig for the supposed "victory party" locally for the Democratic party that turned out to be a very different kind of local party here. We had learned songs like "Happy Days are Here Again." Two days before the gig, and this was before the election, my bass player quit in protest over the Gaza issue. Said he could not in good conscience play this event. His feelings were valid and very strong, but he wanted to wear the Palestinian flag to a Dem party event. As my husband said at the time, we are NOT pro genocide. This is anecdotal and just my experience, but I think many young people were unenthused about the election because of the very real moral issues at play with Gaza. I think that is extremely short sighted, obviously. But we were at a place of counting on the youth vote so much because that orange bastard got more of the older folks vote, which is still mind blowing to me.
Anyway, I would love for more young folks to get really engaged. I am just demoralized as we all are by this whole thing. Not meaning to bash any demographic as a whole.
