20. I can think of several things but don't know if it is any of them, or an unnamed one.

He could be trying to pander to TCF et al to limit the harm TCF does to CA while he is Governor. Like after the Paradise Fire when he played nice with Donnie Dotard and his photo op to get federal resources and cooperation.

He could be trying to expose MAGAts/RWers (who may listen b/c their hero is the guest) to arguments outside of what they hear in their RW media -- to open them to the notion that Dems aren't all the crazy/scary demons their media and social media says. That is a long process, starting sooner is better than later if we are going to peel any of them off before the next election.

He could be trying to seem more centrist, just by engaging with RWers, in preparation for a run in 2028.

He could be trying to build a media presence for a career as a political gadfly after his term is up (2026/7).

He could be trying to build an image/presentation of a not-strictly-partisan figure to enable a post-politics career on various boards/organizations.

I wouldn't bet money on any particular one of these. Because it is also possible his motives and ideas are muddled.
