(10,819 posts)Do you want to communicate effectively or do you want to be pleased with yourself about your leet vocab?
And some people will select "pleased with myself" every time.
I love Bernie. The man was right, is still right, will be right for the foreseeable future. How.ev.er. If he's talking to someone like, say, my blue collar manual labor father, wandering around with "Fighting Oligarchy" as your slogan ain't it.
Learning opportunities are for life. Communication is for politics.
If it feels "dumbing down" swallow that down and do it anyway. Because elections are more important than the need to feel superior or refusing to lower oneself to those unwashed masses below (which is one of our hugest exclamation point problems right now).
And let's be honest. A lot of these terms are just people repeating what they've most recently heard. Remember when "stochastic terrorism" was a thing for, I dunno, two weeks? Then people attempted kakistocracy for a week. "Yes! I have a word! I'm so smort." And that's neat. I love learning new words, too! I recently learned "limerence"
But someone who learns these things then shits on people who haven't should not be anywhere near speaking with the public to persuade them to vote Democratic. That attitude oozes and it's an electoral turn off.
