103. Both of those words are not only unfamiliar to a lot of people,

but even to those for whom they are familiar, they are terms that relate back to the lefty student protests of the '60s, when socialist/Marxist-adjacent college kids were throwing around a lot of high-falutin' academic terminology. I should know; I was one of them, or at least I dabbled. We talked about stuff like dialectical materialism and the bourgeoisie and oligarchy, without really understanding any of it; but it made us feel like we knew important stuff. Kudos to Bernie for his outreach, but his presentations are stuck in that aspect of the '60s. I cringe a little every time I hear the word "oligarchy," even though it's technically accurate, because it reminds me of hanging out with other enlightened 19-year-olds listening to the Stones, smoking weed and cosplaying as revolutionaries.
