You may not feel superior, but your belittling response appears to others (me) that you are projecting your own perceived knowledge onto others. You are expecting others (me) to have the type of education and experiences that would afford me the exposure to the subject words in this OP.

You expressed surprise at me not knowing the meaning of a word, despite my age and education.

So I'll project this onto your response.

You don't seem to recognize that people have different life experiences, different skills, and different FORMS of knowledge.

I do not know your age or education level, but I find it "disheartening" that you don't recognize this. Doesn't seem very "smart". In addition, it's just not a good look.

So I will do the same thing as you in this response: I find it disheartening that someone who expresses dismay over another not knowing the meaning of a word does not understand the nuances of knowledge.
