This is a Jubilee Year, which is probably why Shady Vance wants to go. To walk through as many magic portals as possible. 
But, Rome is already super-crowded with tourists/pilgrims. Especially at Easter! The security for him will be a fucking NIGHTMARE!
I'm hoping that, when he visits the Vatican, he accidentally trips going down those long stairs from the Sistine Chapel to St. Peter's Square. Or that lightning hits him.
