Although I have been following this forum from Canada, I still have an interest about American politics and how it affects this country. American born but here 90% of my life...we have always felt a connection between the US and Canada, more than just an economic one. Going to a place in the US was as normal and casual as going somewhere in Canada. This has all changed. A fear, or suspicion of being personally invaded by US Customs, being made to feel a criminal somehow, has slowed travel plans to the south to a low trickle.
Trump's attitude towards Canada, the tariffs, the insults, the threats, have turned us all quite against your country, even though we know that most of Americans are really good folks. Your shitty present government, trampling American's rights under their dirty feet, frightening hard working people, grabbing them and throwing them out of the country, smacks of the worst horrors ever known to mankind in it's past history.
But we are not without our own crap. We also have an underlying right wing sector of this country, the Conservative Party, who's ideals loosely follow those of the Republican Party. We have our racists, our antisemitics, our anti-LBGTQ crowd, even separatists with language issues. We have conspiracy theorists, secret militias, hidden terrorists, and the whole array of whack jobs just like you.
We have most of the same issues as you, maybe on a different level, maybe from a different angle, but we have always as Canadians have been able to somehow work things out. But we do not have a government hell bent on turning the country into some sort of a kingdom...with just a few on top running everything, using and abusing the system on a daily basis to overrun, enforce, brainwash and conquer it's own people. All that is wrong with the US...is hopefully showing us Canadians what must never be allowed to exist in Canada.
