Most parades that I marched in required dress uniforms which required super shiny shoes and brass. About 1/3 of the marchers were either still drunk or hung over and ambulances followed us to pick up the ones that passed out. My last parade would have been in 1964 or 1965, I don't imagine the people doing the marching now are much different. The worst part was they were always held on Saturdays for the convenience of the big shots. Days that we could have been on liberty or, at least drinking in the EM club or playing poker in the barracks. (we also smuggled booze into the backtracks to improve the poker games).
