2. right-wingers have *always* been highly selective in their use of "states' rights"

before the civil war, they were all about state's rights to enable slavery.

but they wanted the federal government to overrule any northern states' rights and require them to return their "property" should any slave escape to a northern state.

the right wing has no principles at all other than the relentless self-serving use of power. whatever legal theory works in the moment, that's the one they'll use. they don't believe in any particular legal theory, they only believe in using whatever serves their purposes.
