The problem is that Trump wasn't smart enough to realize it before he nominated him for the position.
But then, you could say that about each and every one of his cabinet picks.
What I'm seeing is a president slip sliding away into dementia. his energy is dropping off, as is his attention span. I give him about a year before he's unable to make public appearances. The Republicans will keep him in as a figure head to keep his base together, but eventually they will either have to go with Vance, or rule by committee.
The real power in this administration needs to have their positions consolidated so they can safely anoint Trump's successor, and prepare the nation for the next "fearless leader".
