Like a poor folks as a whole don't spend the money they barely have to get by, which trickles up to the merchants and service providers, who use the profit off the money they made off poor, middle class, and the occasional rich person who visits their shop to send their kids to college, expand their stores, hire more folks, pay higher wages to their poor workers, who can then buy more, continuing the cycle to grow the economy.
Yes, poor folks give you a job, because when they can spend collectively, your job depends on them requiring your skills, goods, and services.
When poor people and lower wage people can't spend, the base of your economy fails and depression hits.
Economies don't work on a trickle downwards, they work on a grow upwards.
