members of that and other state commissions (there are more than 200 of them) are unpaid volunteers. You get to be a member by filling out a form and sending it in; you're "appointed" by the governor only in the sense that he signs the paperwork. Commission members are not interviewed or specifically chosen by a governor; these are advisory committees that meet - maybe as seldom as once a year - with the legislator assigned to the commission. These are not real government "jobs" at all.
