Here in my section of my town north of Düsseldorf, no one is allowed to forget. After the war ended, the townspeople forced the Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo) workers left to march to an unmarked, but well-known area on the edge of town, and forced them to exhume their victims, and cart them back into the center of town where they were give a proper burial.

Their headquarters was later transformed into an elementary school, which both of my daughters attended. All students learned about the girl after whom the school was named:
