In reply to the discussion: Can you forgive the people who voted for Trump? [View all]tulipsandroses
(7,869 posts)In my book, to be forgiven, you should work to repair the damage you caused. Remorse is not enough.
A victim of abuse should not be expected to forgive the abuser.
MAGA/trumpism whatever you want to call it, is here to stay. We need to recognize that. This is not about trump. Even if they were to turn on trump, it is only a matter of time before another trump like figure comes along and they support whatever evil that person wants to do.
trump is the symptom. There is a sickness that has always been in the American blood stream. The racism, bigotry, misogyny, meanness, extreme selfishness - I want my cheap eggs - (for the ones that claim they voted because of price of eggs) even if it means that people have to suffer for cheap eggs. See how many of them don't mind if other people lose their healthcare, as long as they are not affected.
Forget the convictions. - Many Americans do not care about that. They don't mind having a criminal president.
What I cannot understand, is that one million people died from Covid 19. He botched the response. Untold deaths due to his disregard for life.
He could have taken a different stance - He could have leveled with the American people, took action to save lives, encouraged the vaccines - and assured people that closures were necessary but the Government would do everything in its power to help us get back on track, once we got control of the virus. IMO, he would have won easily had he taken that stance. Instead he chose to weaponize it into us vs them. Now even more people will die now that we have a man in charge of our health who does not believe in vaccines and medications for mental health.
I was in NY during 9/11 - I remember the days and weeks after that, walking around the city, people were traumatized, you could see it on their faces. The fear was very apparent. You didn't know if we were still in danger. Were we next?? Is there another plane about to hit us??
I had that same feeling during the height of Covid lockdown, when I did venture out, I often saw that same look on people's faces. The fear of not knowing if we were safe.
People that witnessed that fear, just said, eh, eggs, I'll trade cheap eggs to put the person responsible for inflicting so much trauma on the nation back in office. Then came Jan 6, more trauma. They saw all that and said, yeah, give me more of that.
No, I cannot forgive people that inflict this kind of trauma.
They should be shamed. They depend on Dems always being the nice guys to continue their evil ways. Fuck em!
