(1,870 posts)I recall when American cars were the most dominant in the market, and the idea of purchasing a car from another country was not even on the radar. Then the American car manufacturers got lazy and complacent. They stopped caring about quality, figuring they had cornered the market and didn't need to worry. That's when Japanese manufacturers like Toyota were able to enter the market and started eating up market share; what started as a trickle became a flood. The American car industry had to scramble to keep from getting completely destroyed. They recovered, a bit, but will never be as dominant again. All self-imposed.
The reason Trump happened is that a lot of the voting public has become lazy and complacent. Many have never lived through the Civil Rights era, or the Vietnam War with the draft. They don't have any concept of not having those rights they now enjoy.
Well, they are about to find out.
