15. I don't think he has the same concept of truth vs. falsehood as the rest of us.

There was a time (most of his life, probably) when he lied knowingly and didn't care that he was lying. I honestly don't think he even knows the difference any more.

His narcissism is so extreme that he regards himself as the ultimate authority on everything. If an idea pops into his head, it is true to him. I think he actually believes most of the lies he tells, to the extent that he believes anything.

It doesn't matter to him if a lie he tells today contradicts one he told last week, and it doesn't matter if he tells one next week that contradicts both of the previous lies. The combination of towering narcissism and encroaching dementia has rendered him incapable of making those connections.

At this point in time, I think he pretty much just exists in the present moment. Whatever that thing he calls his "very large brain" is telling him at any particular moment is his only reality. I'd bet money that he's reached a stage where concepts like past and future are a meaningless blur to him.

Of course, his faithful cultists still believe everything he says. When he says something that makes no sense even to them, they write it off as a joke. We've reached a point where different groups of people in this country don't just have differing opinions; we can't even all agree on what the actual FACTS are. Those of us who believe in fact-based reality are at a disadvantage trying to deal with people whose "reality" is based on "alternative" facts."
