In reply to the discussion: US isn't 'safe for tourists' and calls to cancel the Olympics [View all]DFW
(58,781 posts)We are flying to the USA. We will be landing at an airport where we havent had a problem. Actually, my wife has never had a problem except in Atlanta. The CBP guy, himself an immigrant, detained her because he said that her fingerprints didnt match the ones they had on file. Since we knew that she had not had her fingers switched since the last time she was in the USA, the CBP guy was full of shit, but he had her detained for an hour. CBPs superior officers apologized an hour later, and said she was free to go.
We have no reason to think they will detain a 73 year old German visitor with a return ticket, and who is married to a US citizen who is traveling with her. However, it seems to us that many, if not most, of the people detained recently were detained unjustly, so there doesnt necessarily need to be a legitimate reason to do it. Well know by Friday evening.
