7. TPS has a two year timeframe with a defined expiration date

"Temporary Protected Status"

Those who are granted TPS status under law are not permitted any permanent legal status, but permitted to stay 2 years temporarily. While extensions are often granted, it isn't guaranteed under the law. TPS for those countries has been extended every 2 years since when they were first added in 1999 after hurricanes.

Trump did not change the July 5th end date that was established after the last extension in 2023. They just chose to not extend it again. They have attempted to move up the date for a couple other countries, but have been stymied by the courts. As the TPS expires for those other countries, they will likely see the same fate.

There was a different program called CHNV established in 2022 for more recent migrants from 4 countries. That was ended last Fall
