Because he's like them . Trump is so stupid he doesn't realize that his followers with that statement are saying that he's as stupid as they are..

As far as the White House reporters go, they are all hand picked and told what they can say or not say , so they have no credibility as anything more than stenographer. Why would anyone bother with them?

When Trump came to Kenosha the local reporters were told to not contradict the President or to question his answers or they would be removed. I'm sure that's his m.o.
