They will do anything to destroy democracy, which to them is nothing more than an annoying check on their power. I'm afraid it will get worse before it gets better.

Perhaps one day they will wake up to the lesson of the Gilded Age, which is that democracy and reform are the best tools to forestall revolution. I'm not optimistic.
