In reply to the discussion: What do you think of Gavin Newsom for 2028? [View all]DFW
(58,503 posts)We must take back at least one house of Congress, and preferably both. One friend is in the fight of his political life to retain his Senate seat, and I consider him to be the greatest intellect in the Senate at this time. We have chances at pickups, too (NC and IA eg).
My current top choice for President has virtually no chance of being nominated, and, if nominated, probably less chance of being elected. As we have seen in the last ten years, being qualified for the job , on its own, is good for maybe a one in three chance of winning the election. So Im holding off on making a choice at this point. After all, in July 2005, Barack Obama was just passing his first six months in the Senate. How many people saw him in the Oval Office four years later?
Speculation at this point is fair, and so is stating preferences, but I dont see it as anything beyond that at this juncture. I give a high likelihood to including candidates in these discussions two years from now whose names dont even show up on our board yet.
