In reply to the discussion: What do you think of Gavin Newsom for 2028? [View all]haele
(14,400 posts)I find he, Ro Kanna, Adam Schiff and several others are cut from the same Silicon Valley funded mold.
They aren't Republicans or Libertarians, but their records show business interests tend to be higher on their radars than overall economic interests.
Donors having to make sacrifices will never really be on the table, which will give them a schizophrenic political stance where "doing the most effective right thing" will generally take second place to "doing the least controversial right thing".
On edit; Newsom is politically like Bill Clinton, overall a good centrist, liberal when it comes to legal and civil rights, but overall a fiscally and politically (i.e., social services, immigration, regulations, foreign policy) centrist...
And he spends a lot of time trying to appeal politically as a populist rather than stand on record and principles.
Again, his political rise was in the 1990's, when personable centrist populism could pretty much succeed with everyone but the radicals on the right and left.
I'm not sure that can fly with today's Democratic Constituency, especially since he's already defined himself as a centrist in California.
