3. I still am committed to every word of what I pledged clear back in first grade for the first time.

When it comes to "with liberty and justice for all" in the Declaration of Independence, seems to me that although most of the original signers mostly meant "with liberty and justice for men…for property-owning men first…and then for other white men" there's power in the words.

Many believe the Bible is a Living Word. Well, the idea of Liberty and Justice for All certainly has proven to be a living word that has worked in hearts and minds to cause people of every color, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation to work hard to achieve it so that the United States does indeed become that "more perfect Union." Look what it has accomplished with the vote being expanded to include those marginalized and excluded before.

We are in a terrible place now, but I will not ever stop doing my part as a citizen to live up to our founding ideals.
