Democrat can mean one who supports the Democratic Party or it can mean one who supports Democracy.
The Democratic Party of the 1860’s was anything but “democratic.” But, back then one could support democracy and yet oppose the Democratic Party or vice versa.
Similar case here. There is antifa the ideology and antifa the communist political party of 1930’s Germany.
That said, there was also another third organization that was anti-fascist and anti-communist in 1930’s Germany:
