But coming here "the right way" is still a popular right-wing talking point. There didn't used to be a "right way" to emigrate to the US; you just showed up. When non-white, non-Protestant, non-English-speaking immigrants began to arrive in large numbers, that's when the white, Protestant, English-speaking majority put up barriers to anyone who wasn't. Then they could point accusatory fingers at anyone who tried to arrive the same way they did before they put up those legal barriers. "They aren't coming here "the right way"."
