Scott Bessent: Trump's $2000 Tariff Checks Won't Fuel Inflation If People Don't Actually Spend Them [View all]
Like Howard Nutlick's MIL - who wouldn't be concerned if she doesn't gets her Social Security check.
This is the man in charge of the Treasury. Who apparently doesn't understand the incredibly simple economic concept of the Velocity of Money (tiktok link) and how SPENDING from the bottom up drives the economy, not parking cash onto existing cash piles like his caste does.
The man who started a hedge fund with $5.1bn in 2017 that plummeted to $577m in 2023. The man who helicopter-dropped $40bn of US taxpayer dollars on Argentina to bail out his investor class buddies.
Its truly amazing to watch.
The administration is hopeful Americans wont necessarily spend the $2,000 tariff checks President Trump has promised, and instead pump them into Trump accounts for kids, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says. President Trump said Monday that $2,000 checks would start going out in mid-2026, just ahead of midterm elections. (Officials concede legislation will be necessary to actually make it happen.)
The risk of rising prices remains a huge concern for consumers, and against that backdrop, Fox News asked Bessent Tuesday night how the government would avoid another bout of stimulus-driven inflation if the checks happen. Maybe we could persuade Americans to save that, because one of the things thats going to happen next year is the start of Trump accounts to save for kids, Bessent said.
