LBJ got more of his domestic agenda passed in the wake of his death than JFK could have. That's no fault of JFK's, but LBJ knew how to capitalize on the moment. The escalation in Vietnam is a tragedy for many reasons, one of which is that it tarnished the legacy of what was done domestically.
