I know the feeling because I had a similar thing happen. My wife and I had been married for 2 years and she wished me a happy birthday. But no gift. I let it slide knowing her paychecks weren't all that big.
Two weeks later I come home from work on a Friday and there is a note on the table from her telling me to come down to the bar she used to work at that was owned by mutual friends of ours. She hadn't worked there in about 3 years. When I walked in she was at the bar and she pointed out to me the manager she used to work for. He came over and my wife made a big deal about the shirt he was wearing and said that today was his birthday and she had bought it for him.
Needless to say the marriage ended.
