1. actually, the Russians want to end the "mud season" ( now ) in Ukraine

Their tanks and vehicles will do much better once the ground is frozen hard.

OTOH, there won't be much cover for those mechanized units to operate from the drones that Ukraine is fielding.

The trenches that defined the first 2 years of war are now almost useless ( on both sides ) as the drones are becoming ever more sophisticated.

The Russian economy is teetering because of sanctions and the expense of money needed to fund the war. I understand there are now rationing of petrol in parts of Russia.
