In reply to the discussion: Who here is fortunate enough to not have to deal with MAGA family today? [View all]Niagara
(11,220 posts)137. Belated Happy Thanksgiving, liberal N proud
We hosted a Thanksgiving Day meal yesterday like normal for the non-MAGA in our family.
I have a sil, bil, mil and fil who are MAGA. They have their own holiday gatherings and stopped inviting us to gatherings in 2018. They started doing this when they discovered that my daughter is gay.
We also now host our own holiday gatherings without the MAGA's and it's absolutely a good time.
My fil use to yell and shout about politics at birthday gatherings, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas family gatherings. And now no one does that at all since we separated the holiday.
It's a pleasant family gathering while breaking bread with non- MAGA's.
Don't ever be sorry about having peaceful holiday gatherings if anyone else is in the same boat.

Me! One son is a Republican, but not MAGA (I know, I tried). Everyone else is a good liberal.

I've parted ways with my maga family members years ago though I don't celebrate any US holidays anyway

No MAGAs allowed in my home. We're hosting and celebrating with true patriots -- all strong minded DEMs.

Us! Only MAGA is my brother in FL - we are somewhat estranged, so no fear of a visit.

I started cutting off that side of the family back in the Tea Party days. Now there's just me and my friends.

Wife and I don't do religion, religious holidays, and we don't wrap ourselves in the flag, so MAGA family fear us!

I had dinner with friends and all were like minded. Thankfully my MAGA brother lives far away.

Only had to remind my SiL once about the ban on politics. It was a very pleasant dinner.

We were "fortunate" in that vein, in a way, in that my extended family developed a rift

Me! I'm not sure if our daughters' new partner (1-1/2 years) is a Democrat but he's not MAGA.
