In reply to the discussion: Wait, what? Obama and the Dems doing Heritage Foundation's business for them, again. [View all]Dragonfli
(10,622 posts)I used to ask that question, especially after the Heritage Foundation insurance mandate legislation was championed for them by Obama and the blue dog team. I remembered when the idea was rehashed in the early nineties and thought it was only a far right fascination.
By now it has become quite clear to me why, it is because the DLC (a koch funded right wing organization) and there think tanks PPI and Third way, are also far right regarding economic and military policy and Obama and the party leadership are third wayers.
The only things that they differ on are social issues and were it not for those differences there would be nothing to separate them from the traditional GOP, so naturally they pass far right legislation.
If you ever want to foretell policy by this administration, just read the latest position papers of the third way and you will know exactly where the Democratic starting position will be on the issues when they come up, it is uncanny how well the predictions based on that works. The third way site predicted right wing health care, and free trade exactly as Obama signed them, I know what will happen soon with "entitlement reform" just by reading Marshall over at PPI and the latest position papers on cutting er I mean "strengthening" entitlements.
I was an idiot and tried to warn people in here in '09 but was nearly ts'd by groupies for it, I seldom post now, not many old fashioned Democrats like mew left around here and I am tired of using the same factual arguments against Democrats here that I once used on Republicans in the 80's and 90's that were pushing the same policies.
I admire you and others that are still trying to warn the willfully blind, but I feel it is a bit Quixotic now that right wing approaches are being pushed here by the loyal partisans that don't appear to recognize RW policy that has been around for years.
