Generally I like Stone's movies. His take on Dubya was letter perfect. But his ridiculous documentary (at least when I watched the episode on how WW2 played out) had more than a couple of howlers--particularly those trying to excuse Stalin's totalitarian aggression and his short-lived alliance with the Nazis. It's simply bad history (not that a re-focused attention on the role the Soviets played in defeating the Nazis isn't way overdue).
Specifically to your post: Truman did not steal the nomination. He was selected for the job by the same Democratic process by which FDR got nominated and elected four times. Were party bosses involved? Of course! A democracy of 140 million people is going to organize itself somehow and the elevation of party bosses within an electoral process is perfectly legitimate. Those bosses simply didn't want Wallace a heartbeat away. Wallace had no claim to that job other than the personal support of FDR. If that alone could trump the will of the Democratic Party Convention, then it would be an example of one person's decision overriding the decision of the many. That may be many things, but it ain't democracy in action.
