I have two rescue lab mixes now. Had two golden mixes for 13 years each previously. Both went peacefully in our arms, two years apart. But, after the second one passed, for about a week, I'd start to get out of my recliner, because he was always under the foot rest. Or you try to open a bag of chips, quietly, because he'll hear it and demand his share.

That lasted about 10 days, and we contacted the rescue agency and got new 9 week old. A year later got her a 10 week old. And, if I don't have them to the dog park by 10:00am every morning, they're throwing tennis balls at me and bringing me my shoes.

They know who the boss is.
