People who lack the confidence or experience to evaluate investments for themselves and just blindly trust what some "authority" figure has told them; or who panic and sell when the market drops or who only buy after the market has gone up, up, up... those are the ones who get into trouble and think the market is a scam.
Our educational system and our media do a poor job helping people to think realistically about markets and other personal financial decisions.
