2. It would be nice if people could use words in a way that had any meaning

the much-vaunted and frequently-discussed "American middle class" never existed. It was and is the working class. The redefinition of the working class as the middle class is an act of political sleight of hand that has served to blunt the political influence of socialism, as socialist movements require class-consciousness on the part of the proletariat to succeed (as happened in Europe).
